The live-action adaptation of 1991 Disney classic Beauty and the Beast is gearing up for a 2017 release on 17 March.

This latest version stars Harry Potter"s Emma Watson & Downton Abbey"s Dan Stevens, so it will at least be a bit easier on the eye than the Meat Loaf version.

Josh Gad, who voiced Olaf in Frozen, will play Gaston"s servant Le
Fou while Kevin Kline will play Belle"s beloved father Maurice.
There"s a unique voice cast on board too, bringing khổng lồ life the enchanted tableware who live in the Beast"s palace as his domestic staff.

Beauty & the Beast plot: true love conquers all
Beauty và the Beast 2017 is an adaptation of the 1991 Disney animation & so will broadly follow the plot of that film, which itself was loosely based on the French fairytale by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont.
The Beast was a prince, cursed for his arrogance by an old woman who he refused to help, via an enchanted rose. He"s transformed into a creature and will have khổng lồ remain so forever unless he can find true love before the rose"s last petals fall.

He lives in a big old castle surrounded by his former serving staff who have been transformed into household objects. (Bit harsh on them.)
Belle is a smart, independent young woman who"s being aggressively pursed by Gaston, who she repeatedly rejects. One day her dad Maurice gets lost in the forest and stumbles into the Beast"s castle. He detains him but Belle offers khổng lồ swap, leading to romance between the two.
They"re also putting a bit of a feminist twist on Belle"s backstory – which should come as no surprise considering Watson personal record. And no, she won"t be wearing a corset.

"In the animated movie, it"s her father who is the inventor, and we actually co-opted that for Belle," she told EW. "I was like, "Well, there was never very much information or detail at the beginning of the story as lớn why Belle didn"t fit in, other than she liked books. Also what is she doing with her time?"
"So, we created a backstory for her, which was that she had invented a kind of washing machine, so that, instead of doing laundry, she could sit và use that time khổng lồ read instead. So, yeah, we made Belle an inventor."
Like the animated Belle, Watson"s version is also very bookish, and Watson says she has something of a spiritual link to her most recognisable character, Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter franchise.
"It"s interesting, actually, the last day that we finished on phối was the anniversary of the day I was cast as Hermione," she said.
"Someone had sent me an email to say that. I felt this strange sense of completion or full circle. I did feel they were spiritually linked in some way, for sure."
Emma Watson is the marquee star of Beauty và the Beast, but she"s not the only big name in the cast. While you vì chưng see them at the beginning and (spoiler alert) at the end of the film, the staff members at the Beast"s mansion are swiftly turned into household objects. That means that we only get khổng lồ hear these A-listers speaking though clocks, candelabras, and teapots for the majority of the runtime.
